About the Artist; Cara Gonier

With formal instruction from local art mentors and self taught in abstract, I find inspiration from the New England Coast and international travel. I enjoy translating moods and scenes onto canvas, in a way that evokes emotion and not just a journalistic recollection. I find that abstract and impressionism grant the viewer the right to elicit a powerful response and memory of their own. Many of my works are acrylic based, giving me the freedom to paint as bold or watery as the composition requires. I often visualize a color scheme in my mind, derived from something I have seen outdoors. A pattern soon takes shape and it is more often than not, I recognize the work as an experience or place visited before. Titles of the artwork serve mainly to identify the piece in archives. I encourage the viewer to find their own story and create their own journey along with the textures on the canvas.
